The concept of weddings in paradise continues to grow in popularity with around 30,000 UK couples opting for an overseas ceremony each year - that’s around 10% of all UK weddings.
Society is changing and nowhere is this more apparent than in our attitude to marriage. Nowadays it is quite normal (some would argue preferable) for couples to live together before ‘tying the knot’. Others are coming back to marriage for a second, or even a third time. In these situations the full-blown traditional church wedding is becoming more of a social spectacle than a religious commitment.
There are many advantages to combining a wedding and honeymoon, not the least of which is not having to worry about the fickle British weather.
Most countries have rules about residency - typically you will have to wait 2-5 days before the ceremony can take place, giving you time to relax and get used to your surroundings. All the arrangements will be made for you and you will be advised what documents to bring with you
Your marriage will be legally recognised in Britain but it will be registered at your destination so it’s a good idea to obtain several copies of your marriage certificate from the local registrar in case you lose the original later.
